Do You Really Need Full-Day Wedding Photography?

If you are planning a wedding in Liverpool and wondering whether you actually need 8 to 10 hours of photography, you are not alone.

Not every couple wants getting-ready photos. Not everyone is planning speeches or a first dance. And more and more weddings across Liverpool and the North West are shorter, simpler and less traditional.
So the real question is not what everyone else does.
It is what feels right for your day.
What Full-Day Wedding Photography Usually Covers
My Full Frame package is designed to tell the complete story of your wedding day.
Typically, that means starting around two hours before the ceremony and finishing after the first dance. For most weddings, that works out at around 8 to 10 hours of coverage, depending on your ceremony time.
If you are getting married around 1pm, which is very common, your timeline might look something like this:
Morning prep from around 11am
Ceremony
Confetti and drinks reception
Group photos if you would like them
Relaxed couple portraits
Speeches
Evening atmosphere
First dance
It is the most comprehensive way to document everything, from the quieter moments before the ceremony through to the energy of the evening.
Full-day coverage does not mean constant posing or a camera in your face. My approach is always relaxed and unobtrusive. Being there for longer simply allows more space for natural moments to unfold without rushing.
If you would like your whole story captured from beginning to end, this is usually the best fit.

If you are feeling nervous about being in front of the camera, you might also find my blog about engagement shoots in Liverpool helpful before your wedding.
When Full-Day Coverage Might Not Be Necessary
That said, not every wedding needs 8 to 10 hours of photography.
Some couples:
Are not interested in prep photos
Are not having speeches
Are not planning a first dance
Are having a smaller registry office ceremony
Want the important parts captured without photography being woven through the entire day
If your ceremony is at 1pm and you mainly care about the ceremony itself, a few relaxed portraits and natural guest moments, you may not need full-day coverage.
That is where shorter coverage makes sense. If you are planning a smaller celebration, you might also find my guide to micro and intimate weddings in Liverpool helpful.
What Shorter Wedding Photography Looks Like
My Snapshot package covers 2 to 4 hours of photography.
For many weddings, that is perfect for:
Ceremony
Confetti
Family photos
Relaxed couple portraits
Natural guest moments
It is focused and intentional. You get the key parts of your day captured beautifully, without photography running from morning prep through to the evening.
Shorter coverage tends to feel more streamlined because we are concentrating on specific parts of the day. Full-day coverage simply offers more time and flexibility, but the approach stays exactly the same.
Whichever option you choose, my style remains relaxed, natural and centred on real moments rather than staging.

So Which One Should You Choose?
If you want:
The full story
Getting-ready atmosphere
Speeches and evening energy
A complete record of your day
Full-day coverage is usually the right choice.
If you want:
The key moments captured
A shorter celebration
A smaller or more intimate wedding
Photography that feels light and simple
Then shorter coverage can be absolutely enough.
There is no universal rule. It depends entirely on how your wedding is structured and how much of it you would like documented.
A Quick Word on Hourly Wedding Photography
I am often asked whether I offer hourly rates.
Rather than charging by the hour, I offer structured packages so you know exactly what you are getting. It keeps everything straightforward and avoids the feeling of watching the clock on your wedding day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not always. If your day has getting ready, speeches, and a first dance, full-day works best. For shorter, relaxed days, fewer hours still cover all the key moments.
Can I book a wedding photographer for just a few hours in Liverpool?
Absolutely. Shorter coverage works well for ceremonies, portraits, and a few guest shots.
What time do most Liverpool wedding ceremonies start?
Usually between 12pm and 4pm, with 1pm being the most common.
Do you travel outside Liverpool?
Yes—I cover weddings across the North West, including Cheshire and Lancashire.
