First of all – congratulations! If you’re reading this, chances are you’re recently engaged (or deep into wedding planning already), and your to-do list is starting to grow. I know how stressful wedding planning can be!

One of the most exciting parts of the process is choosing your wedding photographer. Your photos are the one part of your day that lasts forever – so finding the right wedding photographer is super important.

But before you book, there are a few smart steps to take that will make everything smoother, easier, and so much more fun.

Here’s what I always recommend to newly engaged couples in Liverpool and the northwest region before locking in their photographer:

📅 1. Secure Your Date + Venue First

Photographers get booked 12–18 months in advance – but I can’t confirm your date until your venue has been officially booked. As soon as you have your venue secured, get in touch with me to check my availability on your date.

If you're set on a photographer and a venue, ask both about availability before confirming either – we’ll happily coordinate with you.

🎨 2. What Are Your Favourite Wedding Photography Styles?

Before you start reaching out to wedding photographers in Merseyside and Cheshire, ask yourselves:

- Do we want posed portraits, candid/documentary photos, or a mix?

- Are we drawn to light and airy, dark and moody, or true-to-life editing?

- What moments matter to us? Family photos? The party? Quiet moments together? This will influence to wedding photography package you choose.

Every photographer has a different approach. Knowing what you’re drawn to helps you find someone who aligns with your vision.

📷 3. Browse Wedding Photography Portfolios

It’s easy to fall in love with an epic golden-hour shot – but great photographers know how to capture every part of your day, from the chaos of getting ready to the emotion of the ceremony through to your first dance and all of the candid moments in between.

Look at:

- Full wedding photography galleries

- Indoor and outdoor wedding photography portfolios

- Consistency in editing and storytelling

Ask to see a full wedding gallery before booking – I'm always happy share several!

🧡 4. Read Reviews + Trust Your Gut

Check Google, Instagram, or wedding directories like Hitched and Bridebook for honest client feedback.

Look for words like:

- Calm

- Professional

- Fun

- Organised

- Made us feel at ease

The best wedding photographers are more than just camera pros – we’re also there to support you emotionally, organise the group shots, and quietly catch all the in-between magic.

✉️ 5. Reach Out Early – and Be Honest About Your Vision

Once you’ve got a shortlist, reach out! When couples message me, I love hearing:

- A bit about your story

- What you’re planning for the day

- How you want your wedding to *feel*

I’ll let you know:

- If your date is available

- My pricing and what's included

- What working with me is like (spoiler: relaxed, friendly, and fun)

Even if you’re not 100% ready to book, that first chat can help so much.
